Subtractive manufacturing (computer numerical control, or CNC machining) has been one of the most preeminent manufacturing methods for the past several decades. Introduced in the 1940’s, subtractive manufacturing was used as a tool to machine highly complex parts that require optimal precision. Essentially, the process involves subtracting or cutting from a block of material to create an end product. Today, subtractive manufacturing comes in many different forms (milling, turning, laser cutting, wire EDM, and carving) and is used for a wide variety of prototyping, production and assembly line applications.

There are several factors to consider before purchasing a large format 3D printer. Since there isn't a 3D printer that will fit every single application that you may have, it is important to understand your application(s). When purchasing a large printer, you can imagine that the printer will take up quite a bit of space and will have electrical requirements. But it is also important to think about your part usage, the material requirements, software required, how the print will be supported and budget.

One of the questions we receive often here at EXBuild is whether the strength and surface finish of 3D printed parts has reached the point that it can be used for end-use, production parts. Well the truth is smooth, production parts have been coming off of 3D printers for years now, you just have to make sure you are using the right technology.

Australian Bell turns to FEA software and 3D printing to bring bell production into the 21st century.
The musical chimes and resounding gongs of bells have inspired and enchanted people for millennia; whether accompanying religious and spiritual ceremonies, used for communication or played for musical purposes. The process of making bells—known as bellfounding—is almost as captivating as the sounds emitted from the percussion instruments themselves.
