An interesting project came to EXBuild when a good customer picked up an old wheeler. They wanted to utilize the accessory racks on the wheeler. They just could not find any mating accessories they liked. We looked it over, listened to what they wanted, took a few measurements and quoted this project.
The main bracket that secures the base they wanted to the accessory rack would need to be very strong and would be subjected to quite a bit of stress and bumps.
Utilizing Markforged’s CFR process. We were able to integrate continuous filaments of Carbon Fiber into and out of the interlocking features. Here is the bracket and reinforcement package we felt would take the abuse of trail riding.
A little bit more engineering work in Eiger simulation to confirm we had sufficient strength in the design.
With 4 brackets per plywood base, stainless steel mounting hardware. We had a base that was more than strong enough. A bonus light weight nonrusting mount.
Mounting the above bracket to their plywood base. G gave the customer the ability to build exactly what they wanted above the platform base for their hunting gear. We now had 4 clips on the base, it slipped right into the rack mounts.
The base was now secure in 3 directions right, left and forward. We just needed something that would not allow the base to slide backwards until we wanted it to.
We came up with a flush mount locking pin and base. The lock pin had a ¼ inch steel dowel pin inserted to improve the strength and life of the lock. The locking pin can be easily pushed down to secure and pulled back up to remove.
