Metal parts manufacturing has undergone significant evolution over the past few decades. The transition from manual casting and forging to CNC machining and now to 3D printing represents a major shift in how metal parts are designed, produced, and delivered on the factory floor — transforming both the speed and flexibility of modern manufacturing.

When it comes to creating strong, durable parts, we've talked verbatim about how different infill materials can create a variety of different part parameters tailored specifically to your individual needs. Recently though, with the help of our trusty [Markforged FX10](https://www.exbuild.com/markforged-fx10), we decided to conduct an experiment to figure out what impact different kinds of base materials might have to a part when it comes to flexibility, durability and overall strength.

In the fast-paced world of food and beverage manufacturing, companies are constantly seeking ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and innovate their production processes. Additive manufacturing has emerged as a powerful tool to meet these demands, offering flexibility and speed in creating custom parts and tooling and keeping lines up and running. However, one critical barrier has restricted its adoption in this industry: the limited availability of food-contact certified filament materials.

In Fall 2023, we launched FX10 as a next generation composite printer. We promised modularity, but didn’t specify what modularity meant. Now, we can clarify. The modularity we were promising was Metal FFF capability – making FX10 the first industrial printer capable of printing composite and metal parts. FX10 was designed from the ground up to bring this dual capability to customers. In this blog post, we’ll talk about what it took to create the first industrial metal and composite 3D printer, and what it means for you as a potential user.
